Job Overview

This plant leadership position is responsible for managing employee relations, talent acquisition, talent development, compensation, benefits and other related human resources programs. In addition to leading a team of local HR generalists, this position works closely with the GM, financial controller, EHS Manager and other key business leaders to:

  • provide an environment that fosters clear, concise, and timely communication;
  • lead and support employee engagement initiatives;
  • analyze internal, local and economic trends to implement strategic workforce planning measures;
  • ensure legislatively compliant workplace practices;
  • facilitate organizational design and change management initiatives.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations- Collaborates with management to determine the most appropriate approach to employee relations issues to achieve conflict resolution in the most fair and consistent manner possible. Assists managers with the application of disciplinary actions and improvement plans, to establish a work environment characterized by consistency and fairness. Utilizes the progressive discipline policy in a manner that fosters employee accountability and drives operational effectiveness/results.
  • Talent Acquisition- Identifies highly qualified candidates (both internal/external and/or passive/active job seekers) with the appropriate skill set to meet the job requirements. Through robust talent acquisition efforts ensures that new ideas, methodologies, approaches are injected into the business. Makes solid selection decisions from a pool of qualified candidates to fill open positions in a timely manner. Participates in strategic planning sessions regarding organizational structure and satisfies the staffing requirements that fall out of these planning sessions.
  • Training & Development- Identifies knowledge/skill gaps within the employee population between job requirement and current abilities, identifying the most appropriate training and development interventions to bridge those gaps as quickly and effectively as possible.
  • Compensation & Benefits- Works with Corporate Compensation and Benefit groups to roll out merit budgets, incentive programs, and/or bonus plans that drive desired behaviors and lead to specific business outcomes. Utilizes market surveys as applicable.
  • Employment Law- Ensures compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws governing employment practices and policies, salary and wage administration, safety and environmental compliance, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • 5+ years prior experience leading and developing a team of HR professionals (generalists and specialists)
  • Prior experience working in a heavy equipment, industrial, manufacturing business
  • Prior experience working with a diverse group of employee groups (contract workers, floor employees,operations leaders, administrative support professionals, senior leaders)
  • Experience in skilled trades talent acquisition and development strategies
  • Well versed in state and national employment law
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources,Business Administration, Psychology, or similar
  • HR Certifications a plus
