Under the direction of the Registered Nurse Reviewer in Pre-Anesthesia Testing the Surgical Clearance Coordinator will provide the best patient care by exactly following reviewer's requests; ensure appropriate clearances and records are received and reviewed appropriately.

* Accept requests from the Clinical Reviewer.
* Obtain clearances, if required; enter facility and clearance information into an Excel Spreadsheet.
* Contact the appropriate facility to follow up on outstanding clearances and record requests.
* Contact the patient and inform them of the date, time, and location of procedure if any are needed for clearance purposes.
* Maintain log of outstanding requests.
* Complete and fax appropriate paperwork to each facility.
* Download faxes and send them to PAT for review.
* Contact specialist or PCP for labs, EKG, records for clearance.
* Ensure that clearance records and necessary paperwork are documented in the log and that PAT has a copy of these records and clearances.
* Communicate pending issues that may affect surgery schedule to PAT and Surgical Services.
* Coordinate duties with other surgery clearance coordinators and additional PAT screening RN.
* Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures, specifically Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct, Corporate Compliance, Diversity, and Confidentiality.
* Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
* Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position.
* Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues.
* Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
* Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment.
* Adheres to the hospital's "Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct" in the HR Manual.
* Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
* Complies with National Patient Safety Goals.
* Universal precautions and infection control guidelines, including hand washing guidelines followed at all times.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties in this job classification.
* Demonstrates respect for diverse backgrounds of all patients, families and co-workers.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    * Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a medical office is preferred. Knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology is preferred.
    * Minimum 1-2 years of scheduling experience.
    * Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
    * Computer skills required.
    * Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
    * Strong critical thinking skills.
    * Have the qualities to give excellent patient care.
